MEET…Jeremy Parsons

I interviewed Texas-born, Americana singer Jeremy Parsons and you can check out his new album out now titled Things I Need to Say!

What’s your favorite kind of sandwich?
To be honest a sandwich might be my favorite meal in the entire world. It’s perfect and simple. The BLT is always my go-to. Add some avocado though and it’s perfection. BLTA, final answer.

The Beatles or Elvis? Why?
I grew up on Elvis. I have come to respect The Beatles as I’ve grown as a human and artist but I’m going to have to say Elvis for nostalgia’s sake. My mom actually used to comb my hair like Elvis’ when I was a small child because she was such a huge fan.

Lyrics to live by?

“Desert Island” album?
John Prines’ self titled debut record. I could listen to this album until I die…on an Island.

What country music artists do you listen to the most?
I listen to predominantly Americana artists like Jason Isbell, Brent Cobb, John Prine, Brandi Carlile, and Buddy and Julie Miller.

How would you describe your “sound”?
It’s very “me!” I would say it fits right in with the things I like to listen to. I like to absorb things that make me feel and recycle it into things that sound like me. It’s inspiration fueled by my favorite creators and creations.

Where do you see your musical career in 5 years?
I honestly have no idea. I just know I’m going to keep doing what I love to do. Wherever that takes me is always a gift that I very much look forward to.

Are there any instruments you don’t play but wish you did? Why?
The fiddle!!! It’s so dang hard and sounds so terrible when you can’t play it correctly. You need a very sound proof secluded room on another planet to get your confidence up I feel.

What was the best advice you have received?
“Do what you love and love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life.” That’s something my grandfather told my father and my father told me.

What advice would you give to yourself at the start of your musical career?
Keep playing and practicing and don’t be afraid to jump out of your comfort zone. Some of my best progress has come from taking the shot.

Where does most of your inspiration come from?
Everyday life! I love people and the feelings and situations that surround all of us on a daily basis. If you listen and care it’s easy to find ideas. It just turns into musical empathy. Shared experiences by way of song.

What do you consider to be your biggest achievement in your career so far?
I’ve been living and working solely on Music in Nashville for 10 years now. There’s not a lot of people that make it that long in this town on just music. I’m very proud of that fact.

What’s on the horizon for you that you would like to share?
I’ve got a month long Texas Tour coming up here this month, in September, with my good buddy Chad Bishop! It’s called The Passing Through Tour and we’re very excited. I’m in the process of working on a brand new record as well so I’m very pumped to get that done and get it out to everybody. It’s my most favorite thing I’ve made to date.
