Meet The Song “Rearview” by Jered Ames

I am excited to share this interview and announce this new single to be released 5.15.21 by Jered Ames. I have been following Jered on social media for awhile now, anxiously awaiting his debut single titled “Rearview”. It is an up-beat traditional country song released just in time for the summer months. In watching Jered’s live streams over the last year I hear a bit of Alan Jackson in his voice, however, on “Rearview” there is a tinge of Kenny Chesney present. Listen for yourself on all streaming formats and check out jeredames.com for more information about Jered Ames.

Who are the writers?
Just me. I own it all. HA!

Who are the performers?
Aaron Currie (Lead Guitar – Josh Turner, Craig Campbell), Robert Blair (Drums – Kellie Pickler, Aaron Tippin, Clay Walker, Jason Michael Carrol), Jimmy Carter (Bass – Huge session player, All the big names as of late: Randall King, Easton Corbin, Craig Morgan, Montgomery Gentry), Tim Galloway (Acoustic – Huge session guy as well as of late: Little Big Town, Chris Janson, Terri Clark), Eddy Dunlap (Steel – Session guy as well house band for CMT awards and Real Country TV show), Jenee Fleenor (Fiddle – CMA musician of the year 2019 and 2020, plays in Blake Shelton’s Band, huge session player.), Jeff Roach (Keys – Session guy, Tim McGraw, Tracy Lawrence, Chris Janson, Brett Eldridge)

Where did the idea come from?
I wrote the song in April of 2020 right in the thick of the Covid quarantine/shutdown. It really was a miserable time being stuck inside and nothing to do. My inspiration came from my 1972 International Scout II. We drove that truck around Tennessee a lot during the shutdown and one night the title/hook line came to mind; put it all in the “rearview.” A positive song about getting away from our everyday cares and worries.

What came first, the music, the words, the idea?
The words. I had just finished a live stream show from my house and I had actually lost my voice and had to end the show early. I sat in bed and even without a voice I decided to try and write a tune. It just clicked. First verse basically wrote itself. I pictured hopping in the truck, driving to the beach, and it just started to flow right out. I finished the tune within about an hour.

Is it going to be a part of a larger collection, such as EP or album?
It is. I do plan to release a full EP at some point. When… I don’t exactly know. I am going to release a couple more singles this year. “Neon Cowboy” is next. Should be coming out in July. Stay tuned! Great song about a girl who’s heartbroken and not looking for any kind of romance.

Lyrically, what perspective is the song told from?
From my own point of view. When I wrote it, I wrote it for myself. What I was desiring at the time. To just escape from the crappy reality of being stuck at home. I just wanted to get in the truck and drive!

Were there any challenges while writing it?
Not really. Like I said, it wrote itself and the process was super quick. Melody just flowed out.

What sets this song apart from your previous work? What sets this song apart from what is being played on the radio today?
Nothing to really compare to. This is my debut single. I’ve written a lot over the years but never pulled the trigger on investing my own money to track professionally. It is expensive record but I knew this song needed to be released. During quarantine, I played a lot of originals on my live streams from the house. I got a lot of positive feedback for this song and a few others. For sure it’s different from the pop country that’s all over the radio. Has a little bit of an edge to it which is definitely me. I grew up listening to a lot of country with my parents. George Strait, Alan Jackson my biggest influences. But also the Beatles were huge for me in my early teens when I was learning to play guitar and pop rock like Blink-182 and Oasis where my “go to’s” in High School. I’m a mixed bag when it comes to music haha.

Will you be releasing a video with this song?
Yep. Plan to shoot at the end of May! Going to be featuring my ’72 Scout in the video! Can’t wait to get that out there.
