MEET…Kevin Lee

I have conducted several of these MEET interviews, particularly in the last year, and wanted to address the reason why I do these. I think it is important for all fans to help aspiring country musicians in any way we can. They are working dilligently to always reach a wider audience and often times it falls on deaf ears. I don’t pretend to understand what that experience is like for a musician, I just know it happens and realize how difficult the struggle can sometimes be.

I hope these interviews add insight to where the musicians are coming from and what is important to them. I always say that these are the questions and features that I would like to know about my favorite country musicians, commercial, indie or otherwise.

Check out our interview with Kevin Lee below to learn about his inspiration, what he listens to and more! Kevin’s current single “What Your Love is Like” can be streamed now on Spotify and iTunes.

What’s your favorite kind of sandwich?
PB & J on wheat…. For sure!

The Beatles or Elvis? Why?
Elvis all the way! Aside from us both being for the South…. I can always admire people that cross boundaries, go against the “norm”.

Lyrics to live by?
“I’ll take years off my life, before I take life off my years” -Lee Brice

“Desert Island” album?
George Strait’s “50 #1’s” album

What country music artists do you listen to the most?
“The Chief” Eric Church

How would you describe your “sound”?
I would say that I have a newer style feel, with a classic 90’s country undertone.

Where do you see your musical career in 5 years?
My goal is to be writing full time within the next 5 years. It would be nice to release a couple albums under a label, but writing has always been the main goal.

Are there any instruments you don’t play but wish you did? Why?
I am currently focused on learning piano, for the simple fact that I can enhance my writing in doing so. I would also love to learn steel guitar!

What was the best advice you have received?
Never overthink happiness.

What advice would you give to yourself at the start of your musical career?
Do it now! There will be no perfect time, no perfect song, so just do it.

Where does most of your inspiration come from?
I would say my music reflects my life. Everything from heartbreak, to love, to dreams…it’s all from what I experience.

What do you consider to be your biggest achievement in your career so far?
My first single being released and becoming #1 on the radio for a few weeks, and remaining in the top for 11 weeks. (Atlanta’s 94.9 The Bull Back Yard Country”)

What’s on the horizon for you that you would like to share?
I am currently finishing up on my newest single, “It’s Alright”, and working on my debut EP.
