“Two of a Crime” Miranda Lambert Single Review

About 10 months after the release of her latest album, Platinum, Miranda Lambert releases a new song. It is to be included on the soundtrack for the Reese Witherspoon comedy Hot Pursuit.

This was a grower for me and I quickly realized why. For some reason I was thinking it was going to be a rocker or screamer, but instead is a mid-tempo song. It kind of catches on and takes you on a ride. After a few “in your face” singles, such as Somethin’ Bad and Little Red Wagon, Two of a Crime is a nice change of pace. Its not as poppy and catchy as Automatic, so I’m not sure how well it will do on radio.

The song’s lyrical content is similar to Somethin’ Bad with the whole Thelma and Louise theme, but more laid back. Particularly towards the end there are some horns and other Spanish sounds that add a different flavor to anything Miranda Lambert has put together in awhile.

Overall, I think its a solid effort and I do like the song, but I’m not sure current country radio will welcome it. There’s too much else going on right now, but then again, this is Miranda Lambert we’re talking about. Almost everything she releases turns to gold.
