Getting to Know…Polly Baker
What’s your favorite kind of sandwich?
Here is my dream sandwich: Not too picky about the bread type, as long as it’s not 11 grain bread or 7 seed. Smoked Turkey as the meat, green olives, black olives, peppers, pickles and hot mustard. Oh maybe bacon too.
The Beatles or Elvis? Why?
I’d go with the Beatles, because I’m a harmony girl and their harmonies are so great.
What country music artists do you listen to the most?
Dan + Shay are constantly my choice for feel-good country music. Also Hunter Hayes, Keith Urban (love the mandolin and banjo!), Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, Cole Swindell, Rascal Flatts, Easton Corbin, Dallas Smith, Joe Nichols, Adam Hambrick, Sam Hunt and Lucy Hale. That’s the current list.
How do you see country music evolving within 10 years?
It’s cool to see where country is now along more of a pop/country route. That being said, I loved to hear more bluegrass elements in country music and hopefully within the next ten years, country returns more to its original roots.
Are there any instruments you don’t play but wish you did? Why?
I distinctly remember asking my dad for a sparkly pink guitar when I saw Lindsay Lohan playing guitar and singing in the “Freaky Friday” movie. I was determined to be a rockstar. I practiced my air guitar for hours, which was apparently atrocious, according to my family. I learned nine chords on guitar through Google Images and that was it. I’d still love to learn to play.
When writing songs where do you find your inspiration?
As a chronic eavesdropper, I’m constantly listening in on everyone’s conversations. That’s actually a true statement. Sometimes I’ll pick up ideas from that. Mostly though, my inspiration comes from past relationships, boys in general, love, and various things I’m going through at the time.
What do you consider to be your first big break in your career so far?
I have an announcement to make in JUST a few weeks about that 😉 BUT as of yet, I opened for Chanel West Coast this past summer AND had a show at the House of Blues Foundation Room on 10/10!
What’s on the horizon for you that you would like to share?
You can expect some new songs and more tour dates! I am excited to meet all of you! 🙂
