Tonight Kix Hot Country hosted the 33rd annual Country Showdown in Palm Springs. Seven finalists each played two songs in front of three judges in hopes to make it to the state finals round.
I have been following a few of the finalists for awhile now, including the “house” band Southern Caliber. One of the finalists was Ry Bradley, whom I have met and seen live a few times. The other artist I’ve been following but had not seen perform live was Sheyna Gee, who is actually from my hometown. Southern Caliber played as the “house” band tonight for most of the performers and I was anxious to see them play as well.
I was pleasantly impressed with everyone tonight! I am blown away by all these talented California Country artists. All three really brought it tonight and I am anxious to see Sheyna and Southern Caliber again very soon!
The winner of tonight’s showdown was Ry Bradley! I have featured him before on Rock Meets Country, you can read my review of his EP titled Freedom Like This. He performed two songs off the EP, the title track and the rocker “Gone”. I think the judges were impressed with his ability to mix it up with two very strong songs that are polar opposites. One of the judges asked “why aren’t you famous?” I’ve been asking that question for a while now myself…
Most of the contestants tonight will also be playing at the “Party in the Pasture” country music camping festival September 25-28th in Indio, California. Its also sponsored by Kix Hot Country 92.1FM. The bands and artists that I have been following and are confirmed are Ry Bradley, Sheyna Gee, Southern Caliber, Ben Dukes, Kaela Kinney and the Just Dave Band, and many more! And as it just so happens a few passes were raffled off and my wife and I won! We cannot wait to Party in the Pasture with all these talents artists and bands, all who have welcomed Rock Meets Country with open arms. Thanks everyone!
