Tornado Tour with Little Big Town

Finally I’m writing about the most important country music experience for myself thus far! I wish I had written this a long time ago, the show was over a year ago now and I cannot find information on it anymore. Its Little Big Town!
Anyway, I did get to see my favorite country group, it was a birthday present from my wife. Although the ticket says November of 2012, the show was actually postponed due to a death in Kimberly’s family Thanksgiving weekend. The show was actually in February of 2013.
The opener was Kasey Musgraves who was just starting out, riding high on her first single Merry Go Round. I thought her set was ok but I wasn’t familiar with any of her other songs, but one did stand out and that was Follow Your Arrow. I heard the line “or kiss lots of girls if that’s something your into” and did a double take. Way to go Kasey!
In short, Little Big Town was amazing. It was definitely of my top favorite concerts, if not the very top. This group really delivered, their harmonies just engulf the venue. The stage set up was fairly simple but effective, which I think is perfect for them. The showcase for an LBT show is those voice, you don’t need a bunch of outside distractions.
The Wiltern is a fairly small venue, old school theater. We had seen Stevie Nicks perform there the previous year, a good setting for both. I had not looked at any setlists for LBT prior so everything came at a surprise for me. The biggest was when they played Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain. It had been in the setlist and was so good that they were asked to perform it on one of the award shows in 2013.
I wish I had the setlist but they of course played all their hits such as Boondocks, Little White Church, etc, as well as every song off the Tornado album exception one song, Night Owl.
This was the first time I had seen them perform Your Side of the Bed, it hadn’t been realized as a single yet. It was another amazing stand out moment of the night! They ended up performing it in 2013 at the ACMs I believe, or CMT’s show, and did it similiar to their tour. Karen and Jimi began at opposide ends of the stage and worked their way together. Adding to the song’s potency is that those two are married.
Hoping to see the band again this summer!
