The Beginning

About a year ago I made the decision to get into country music. I was listening to Mark And Brian on KLOS as I did every morning and Joe Walsh was being interviewed. He was discussing his sort of crossover into country and mentioned how they have their own town. A lightbulb went off in my head.

I grew up listening to rock, that’s all I’ve ever really listened to and I was fine with it. But I realized that a lot of “today’s” rock I don’t like and all I was doing was listening to the new music put out by my favorite bands, bands that are all now considered classic rock. So my tastes were very, very limited. And its not as if my small niche of bands get a lot of exposure. MTV has all but forgotten music, let alone “80s bands” such as Van Halen, U2, Def Leppard, Sammy Hagar or even Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks.

The lightbulb that went off made me realize this and while it may sound weird to make a decision to “get into” something, the truth is, as I have found out, I’m home. Country music feels comforting to me, like being where I belong and I’ve been having a blast with it!

The first thing I did was turn off KLOS and KCAL, and tuned into KFROG and GO COUNTRY (I haven’t changed the station since). Radio was like doing homework, and was my first explosure, which leads me to the song that did it all….PONTOON.

The video was on heavy rotation on CMT and both radio stations last summer and actually ended up being the “song of the summer”. I had never heard of Little Big Town before, but they have become my favorite band. That one song really pushed me over the edge! Since I of course have purchased all but one of their albums. But it was fun waiting to see if CMT would play the video and waiting to hear it on the radio, which is something I was rarely getting to experience with my favorite rock bands.

Over the course of the year I attended a few country concerts (including Little Big Town), purchased a number of albums, watched CMT countless hours and every day in the car I listen to country radio. The best part about it is that its a whole new realm for me just waiting to be discovered, so many artists, bands, songs and melodies that I have yet to hear. I am always willing to hear more and MORE, and to learn more as well.

That is what this blog is about, my discovery into a primarily new world for me and realizing how at home I feel there.
